Living in Northern Kentucky and Following both SEC and UK football for some time now I wanted to spread the news:
Jacksonville, FL (Sports Network) – The Jacksonville Jaguars signed free agent quarterback Tim Couch on Sunday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Couch was the first overall pick of the Cleveland Browns in the 1999 draft out of the University of Kentucky. He played five seasons (1999-2003) in Cleveland, starting 59 of 62 games, throwing for 11,131 yards with 64 touchdowns and 67 interceptions.
After his release from the Browns, Couch was signed by Green Bay in June, 2004, but released prior to the regular season. The 29-year-old has been out of football since then due to a serious rotator cuff injury.
I read one man’s response after hearing this news “Somewhere Ryan Leaf is slugging a cheerleader” I don’t condone violence but I thought it was funny.
Good Luck Tim -I hope we see you play in Jacksonville.

So this topic is mostly for those early adopters of the new High Definition format (ie. My Friend JC). J and I are often talking about the next movie to grab on BR to watch on his rather large HDTV. I thought this site might be helpful in that pursuit. I visit this site often and find some great reviews on upcoming movies and DVDs. I hope you too find this great site helpful. In shear anticipation I ran to the Local B&N last Tuesday night to find one of my favorite comic book authors on the shelves with his debut Novel.
I am really looking forward to this read as I reflect on all the weird fun worlds that Mr. Ellis introduced me too from The Authority to Global Frequency. I’ve been a big fan for some time now and while not all the topic broached in his novels were my cup-o-tea, they sure were entertaining. Today, I’m about half way finished with Crooked Little Vein and should be finished with it tonight.(Really fast read) This book isn’t for everybody, its oddly entertaining. I found myself thinking that it’s Raymond Chandler meets Chuck Palahniuk . A Detective Story with a real modern edge. And when I say edge I mean Edge. Chuck Palahniuk fans this is a must read.

Those who enjoyed the zombie spoof Shaun of the Dead might want to head for Best Buy on Tuesday for the latest Buddy Cop Film, Hot Fuzz, It is sure to entertain.I didn’t catch this movie at the local Cinema but I’m sure to give it a look now that it’s on DVD.
The team of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are great and I look forward to catching them in the newest offering Hot Fuzz. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed REVIEW
300 -The other movie that comes out this Tuesday is Frank Miller’s 300. I did catch this one at the multiplex with a group of guys and all I can say is extreme. This flick is not one for the wife, kids or even the faint of heart for that matter. It’s a bit violent and way over the top. And while it does appeal to my inner caveman and I love Frank Miller’s source material, this is one that I’m keeping at one viewing for now. Not a movie that I plan to pickup or rent but one that if you haven’t seen might be a “Guys Night” type movie. This movie appeals to the Sin City audiences.REVIEW

So Comic-Con International happened this past week. And those lucky enough to visit the left coast were greeted with (at least one of )the Iron Man armors.
Say what you will about comic-book movies but I’m looking forward to what looks to be an awesome Iron Man movie. Check out more pics over at newsarama.com

I heard about this movie on Filmspotting and then I heard about it on the radio this morning. The Host comes out on DVD today. Critics are calling it Little Miss Sunshine meets Jaws meets The Ring. It’s a Korean film but I hear the dubbing is great and nearly perfect. Here’s a description I found online:
Bong Joon-ho’s THE HOST is a giddy revelation–an inspired and unexpectedly moving contribution to the monster movie genre. Several years ago, a crooked government official from the United States ordered the dumping of toxic substances into Seoul’s Han River. Years later, the hapless Gang-du (Song Kang-ho) is working at his father’s food stand along the river, caring for his bright daughter Hyun-seo (Ko A-sung). But one day, a monstrous creature emerges from the water and embarks on a murderous rampage throughout the community, swallowing Hyun-seo whole. Gang-du’s bullish younger brother Park Nam-il (Park Hae-il) and sister Nam-joo (Bae Doo-na) condemn him for being such a failure, while their father angrily chastises them for being so cruel. But when Gang-du receives a cell phone call from Hyun-seo, the family must band together to reclaim her. Unfortunately, at this stage, the government has announced that the monster is the host of a dangerous virus, and anyone who has come into contact with it–namely Gang-du–must be isolated. As the monster continues to wreak havoc on Seoul, Gang-du, his father, and his siblings must learn to work together to bring Hyun-seo home. Bong Joon-ho’s third film, after BARKING DOGS NEVER BITE and MEMORIES OF MURDER, firmly establishes his status as one of the world’s most gifted storytellers. Not simply a monster movie spectacle–though it is certainly that and then some–THE HOST also works as a poignant family drama and a biting critique of America’s invasion of Iraq.
These Asian movies are flat out weird but guess what? I’ll probably pick it up at the local rental store this weekend.

Do you consider yourself hip and happening dude or dudette? Are you that guy at the water cooler that everybody looks to for the local movie reviews? Do you currently have an Ipod and use it only for music? Well, sad human you are missing out.
I’m a big fan of movies and all things pop culture and this podcast scratches that movie itch. Take a look at Filmspotting to get the latest from Adam and Sam out of Chicago. They see the bad movies so you don’t have to. Its a great place to listen to reviews, interviews, top 10 lists and basic movie low down. If you consider yourself a movie connoisseur take a look at Filmspotting.

Kelli and I had a great weekend in Columbus Indiana with almost all the Campbells. Great food and good times were had by all. I would like to give a special thanks to JohnnyCupcake and Sara B for the Rock Star treatment last night at the DQ. “Bird and Sara, keep it cool till Turkey day, and Sara let me know about the Christmas gift (I have your name)”
Also I want to thank Grammers and Grandpa for the trip down memory lane(in Toyota style) this afternoon. It was fun to see the homes you had, it was an honor to see the humble beginings of it all. Both Kel and I look forward to the next Campbell event. Our hopes are prayers are with the whole Campbell Clan. See you on Turkey Day.
Love Doug and Kel
As of last night at 12:01 the Harry Potter Craze has past me by. No lines for me filled with anticipation, no fun costumes and no popculture memory for me.
(40 years from now)
“Grandpa, tell us where were you when the last Harry Potter book went on sale” and with a tear in my eye and a sullen look, I will have to say ” I was sleeping, I didn’t read Harry Potter back in those days.” I can hear my grand kids gasp even now. I fear that it haunts my future.
I have been wehlmed by the articles about tons of tweens waiting in line for this last installment of Harry Potter in Lodon and around the country . I’ve read the speculation “Who will die?” I even talked about it at work. But truth be told I feel a little left out of the pop culture event. Am I too late to the party? Can I possibly read all 6 Potter novels plus this new one over the weekend and enter Corporate America on Monday morning and talk about this latest installment with grace ? Even if I took my time the final end knowledge would be spread like wild fire and ruin me Potter journey.
So I fear I must come to the harsh realization that this is one event I’ll have to watch from the bench. And hold dear to me the memories of lines filled with Hobbits, Dwarfs and Men dressed like Jedis to tell my Grand kids about. I will tell them ” Kids, I might have missed Potter but I didnt miss the important stuff” the I’ smile and rock in my chair with a nice little grin and remember the good o’ days.
