Is it possible that our parents got us our jobs?
Is our vocation in our DNA? Locked deep down there somewhere. Is there someone being born in this world right now genetically predisposed to be a garbage man, a banker, a president,a baker a candle stick maker?
Would that throw a kink in who you dated? ” Tell me a little about yourself? Oh and what do your parents do for a living? Do they make six figures?” I thought dating was hard enough without trying to think about if your vocation mixed with his or her DNA what would you get?
Just think , what if doctors could test for that. I can just see the doctor now ” Mr and Mrs Brown it’s a boy and he’s a future Quickie Mart employee.” or ” Doctor, is our baby healthy and will she be a trial lawyer?”
In my case I would say that I was born into this world a salesman. My father was a top sale man his entire life and my mother has never , I repeat never met a stranger. I have grandparents that have been give the spiritual gift of “gab”. I come from a long line of hard working men and women who have been driven to sell.
So not too long ago I married a lovely girl who laughs and smiles and loves to go for picnics and ride roller coasters and read books and lot of other fun stuff. Her vocation of choice is elementary school teacher.
Ok, now since I’m a salesman and she’s a teacher what kind of offspring does this produce? Two vocations that come to mind- a very driven teacher who yearns to sell his or her students on education or a sales person who is driven to educate the prospect on the reason to buy from them.
So perhaps if your bundle of joy grows up to be an unmotivated Playstation 3 junky who still lives in your basement, think twice maybe your DNA predisposed your offspring to like Cheeto’s and Fritos and be basement bond.
