This Sales Man’s Life

As of last night at 12:01 the Harry Potter Craze has past me by. No lines for me filled with anticipation, no fun costumes and no popculture memory for me.

“Grandpa, tell us where were you when the last Harry Potter book went on sale” and with a tear in my eye and a sullen look, I will have to say ” I was sleeping, I didn’t read Harry Potter back in those days.” I can hear my grand kids gasp even now. I fear that it haunts my future.

I have been wehlmed by the articles about tons of tweens waiting in line for this last installment of Harry Potter in Lodon and around the country . I’ve read the speculation “Who will die?” I even talked about it at work. But truth be told I feel a little left out of the pop culture event. Am I too late to the party? Can I possibly read all 6 Potter novels plus this new one over the weekend and enter Corporate America on Monday morning and talk about this latest installment with grace ? Even if I took my time the final end knowledge would be spread like wild fire and ruin me Potter journey.

So I fear I must come to the harsh realization that this is one event I’ll have to watch from the bench. And hold dear to me the memories of lines filled with Hobbits, Dwarfs and Men dressed like Jedis to tell my Grand kids about. I will tell them ” Kids, I might have missed Potter but I didnt miss the important stuff” the I’ smile and rock in my chair with a nice little grin and remember the good o’ days.
