I just read this and it gets me pretty excited. Charlize Theron and Viggo Mortensen are confirmed to star in The Road, the post-apocalyptic drama based on Cormac McCarthy’s novel of the same name. Viggo was talking publically about being interested in making the movie but Variety confirms that the Lord of the Rings ranger is now in. Theron will play Mortensen’s wife in the movie and appear in flashbacks since the movie is set in the aftermath of the end of the world. Viggo and his son (yet to be cast) are the picture’s two main characters, two survivors of the unspecified global calamity which has left the survivors desperate for food…any food. The movie will be directed by John Hillcoat (The Proposition).
Theron is a fan of the book and has worked before on The Yards with producer Nick Wechsler. Filming is slated to commence next month.
I am a big fan of this book (Favorite of the year) however if it succeeds and stays true to the book it’ll be a very bleak movie and if it’s change with a more positive message then I think it will loose a lot of its’ tone that really made the book.
I’m real nervous about this one.
