Over the weekend after mowing and the typical out doors stuff. I sat down to watch JJ Abrams( The Lost and New Star Trek guy) and I can say with out a doubt I was impressed.

Yes it’s very blairwitchy – with the hand helds -bring your car sick pills cause this is going to be a bumpy ride.

I found the film really fun and different -I think the experiment worked if that was Abrams was going for.

The Characters were ok -Very Gap commercialish -Filmspoting nod . But I liked them -especially the main camera guy. Explaining what he’s doing to every guest at the party….well I found it oddly funny.

The Monster is fun….. What you see of it.

The Bridge scene is great – I felt like I was there.

I wish I was a little more invested so when then end comes I feel for the characters a little more.

I hear that there is a Cloverfield 2. Could we get a different group of 20 somethings looking for thier girl friends. Who knows. Perhaps a Military perspective or perhaps some one watching on TV the NY events and know that it’s coming – Time to prepare.

I thought the film was really fun. Rent it, buy it, Just see it.

Cats

Last night I had the privilege of joining my Kelli and the in-laws for NKU’s performance of Cats.

It was pretty good. The music was good, dancers were great and the singers were excellent for a college performance.

I do have a few questions:

1. What is it with Old people and plays?

2. What is it about Cats -besides the obvious that’s so out of this world?

3. Is the music kind of repetitive or is it just me?

4. Would Cats really sing that good?

5. Do Dogs have musicals too?

The Forbidden Kingdom Weekend

Chris, Jeremy and I took a little Journey this weekend.

Chris and I enjoyed a Ballpark Pizza -Mustard base with hot dogs and kraut -Chris liked it and I thought it had a very interesting taste-We polished if off pretty quickly. So thumbs up on the Ballpark Pizza.

Jeremy enjoyed his Calzone – chicken and bacon -no Cheese.

The move was good -not great but good. Jet Li and Jackie Chan were great and the story was good lots of action moments to keep you entertatined . The film was very throwback to the Hong Kong Karate Movies. One note, I never have seen Jet Li laugh as much as he did. It was almost funny just to see that.

I wouldn’t pay big $ to see it but I would recommend catching it on DVD when it comes out. Click on the poster for more reviews on The Forbidden Kingdom.

Thanks guys for the great time.

Sorry I had to run.

Sharp Teeth -Toby Barlow

I recently picked this book up. I had read a few reviews and it appears to be up my alley. (I’ll post a review once I’ve finished. The first bit I’ve read is pretty good)

Here is what some are saying:

From The New Yorker
In a cheeky nod to epic poetry, Barlow’s début novel is written entirely in free verse and concerns a metamorphosis, of humans into wolves, in Los Angeles. No slaves to the moon, these postmodern lycanthropes do a thousand situps at a time and choose when to “self-ignite.” (There are lapses: a grease-sensitive type inadvertently commits a massacre at Popeye’s.) The story involves a white-collar pack run by a Sun Tzu-style strategist that operates like a cross between a ruthless law firm and the Lakers; a plot to infiltrate animal shelters and high-end bridge tournaments; and a dog catcher who unknowingly falls in love with a werewolfess. Barlow deftly sketches the L.A. landscape—stucco, sun beating through smog, tract-home meth labs, fresh-cut lawns that “hiss with wealth,” freeways that devour hours of life—and metes out his tale in noirish koans: “Watch any man’s eyes / at the bounce of a ball. / His head tilts slightly sideways, just a hair, / as a primitive focus / comes to life.”

The Incredible Hulk -Poster

Wow! Is it me or have they really done a 180 on the previous Hulk movie.  Having seen this and the previews it looks like this Hulk movie will follow more closely the TV show -the Bill Bixby version. Edward Norton in the jean jacket takes me back to the late 70’s early 80’s when I use to watch the TV show.

It may be me but I here the closing TV music when I seen this poster.

GRINDHOUSE -Saw it over the weekend

So over the weekend I was privy to see the full run of Tarantino and Rodriguez’s GRINDHOUSE on Starz.

All I can say is that I missed out on a fun time in the theater. Wow!

The movie isn’t for everybody but I really liked it. I like the rough edges and I could really see the vision for this film. I believe that both Tarantino and Rodriguez had a lot of fun on this one.

I believe that both of them have a passion for the art of film and tried to convey that passion to the audience.

I think some got it and some didn’t. (I hope I got it)

I don’t have a real favorite both were equally enjoyable to watch. -”Planet Terror” has some real fun scenes and the casting was great -very Nostalgic. “Death Proof” -was a real wild ride. “Go Stunt Man Mike”

I really like the lost reel gimic and the fake previews. Can’t wait for “Machete”.

The most disappointing thing is that I didn’t catch it in a theater as it was intended for a big screen experience.

I welcome thoughts about GRINDHOUSE ,Planet Terror and DeathProof.

Again if you like a film experience then this might be your cup of tea. This is not “Forrest Gump” or a Family gathered around the TV kind of Flick.

“Stuntman Mike” is Awesome!

“First Snow” See this movie – Guy Pearce, Written by “Children of Men” guys (Mark Fergus(Directed) and Hawk Ostby) , it’s about trying to escape fate. -That’s enough with out giving too much away

I promise it will make you think and may even cause you to appreciate things a little more.

There is some great acting and great scenery. If you like “Children of Men” and “No Country for Old Men” then you will enjoy this Flick.

For a review -check this one out -but I would just rent it and Enjoy.
